As an institution older than the United States itself, the Hartford Public Library set out to commemorate its 250th anniversary with a refreshed brand identity. I led the creative team in developing a distinctive logo that honors the library’s rich legacy and the vibrant, diverse community it serves. In addition to the logo, we crafted a comprehensive visual branding system that highlights the library’s wide range of offerings and services, reinforcing its role as a pillar of the Hartford community.
about the mark
The icon is made up of three shapes that come together to form an abstract "H," representing the heart of the library in Hartford. These shapes also reflect the library’s rich history and community, symbolizing diversity, books, buildings, a bridge, and even its original home at the Wadsworth Atheneum. The one-color version showcased later, offers a glimpse into the library’s vibrant and thriving community.
